Home Maintenance Calendar
A home has a lot of working parts, and maintaining it is like keeping a machine well-oiled. It takes regular checkups and effort to keep a home in good shape. With so many moving parts, it can be easy to let something slip through the cracks or put off a task for longer than you should. To keep track of everything, Ace Hardware recommends making home maintenance calendar to schedule tasks to tackle throughout the year.
Tackle each task at the time of year it makes most sense for you, but add the following items at these intervals:
Every 3 Months
Once a quarter, you should replace your furnace and air conditioning filters to keep the air in your home free of dust and particles. Dirty filters trap excess dirt in your heating and cooling system, which can lead to serious and costly issues down the road.
Every 6 Months
At the half-year mark, give your dryer vents a good cleaning and scrub the inside of the kitchen disposal with a toilet brush.
Every 12 Months
And there are quite a few things you should do on an annual basis. Once a year you should:
- Drain your water heater
- Have your furnace professionally inspected
- Conduct an exterior inspection of our home to find any issues with loose shingles, broken siding or chipped paint
- Replace batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
- And check the weather stripping and seals around your windows and doors. Cracks or faulty seals that let air escape can have a big impact on your energy bills.
A little maintenance goes a long way when it comes to keeping your home in great shape. And taking care of small problems when they arise can save you money in the long run.
