This week on The Approved Home Pro Show on San Diego Living, I was interviewed by Clint August, and we discussed the many benefits of design-build remodeling. In case you are not familiar with this industry term, “design-build” is where one firm is responsible for the design development, pricing, construction documents, permit processing, construction and project management of an entire project.

For home remodeling, an experienced contractor providing design and building services together is usually the best option. Hiring a draftsperson or architect for a design, and then bidding your project out to several construction companies can be time consuming and confusing to most homeowners, whereas design-build firms offer design development and construction service is all under one roof, streamlining the process and creating one central point of contact.

Using Design-Build Remodeling

 

The process starts with design development, where clients see space plans, elevations, renderings and a 3D walk through. After the preliminary design is approved, the work is fully priced out, including provisions for fixtures and finishes. Before construction starts there is time for value engineering to ensure the project is within budget.

Handled correctly, design-build remodeling saves the homeowner time, money and stress by ensuring that the design team and build team have the same information and the same goals. One firm is accountable for delivering a successful project and providing great value to their client.
