Improve Painting Results with 3M ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape
Everyone knows ScotchBlue is the go-to for taping while painting. But you may not know the insider tips for getting great results every time.
First, choose the right tape for the job you’re working on. Are you working outside? Is your surface particularly delicate? There are several different ScotchBlue tapes available, each designed with unique features. ScotchBlue Original is versatile to cover almost all of your painting needs, but for delicate surfaces like cabinets or freshly painted surfaces, try ScotchBlue Edge Lock Advanced Delicate Surface. For exterior surfaces, ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape for Exterior Surfaces is the only masking tape designed specifically for outdoor use.
Next, when you’re ready to mask, pull tape off the roll just a few feet at a time. Don’t roll out an entire wall at once. Apply the tape to the surface, pressing the edges as you go. Remember not to stretch the tape. Stretching can cause it to lift or break, which will lead to messy edges.
Carefully press the edges of the tape down with a putty knife to create a definitive line without tearing the tape. A thorough preparation and taping will make your painting go smoothly.
After your paint has dried, remove the tape by pulling it using a slow speed at a 45° angle. To get the best results pull the tape back on itself. If you see any paint starting to lift, you can cut along the edge of the tape.
