Details About “Shade Ideas For Your Backyard”

Sean: When it comes to outdoor living in San Diego, shade is the biggest factor for comfort. Thankfully, there are plenty of options for creating shade. J.R. Shantz from All Seasons Windows & Patios is here. And, there are so many options for shade that you guys provide at All Seasons.

J.R.: That’s correct. The most famous patio cover out there is your typical lattice cover, pergola cover with a partial shade across the two inch lattice, if you will. And everything’s made out of aluminum nowadays. It, that lasts-

Sean: Not wood?

J.R.: Not wood. No, wood will dry rot and especially burn in this kind of environment. And cities and municipalities don’t like to have wood patio covers much anymore.

Sean: So, those are what people are used to, the lattice, it lets the sun in at different times and creates different shade.

J.R.: That’s your typical patio cover, yep. And, then you have a solid shade cover that you can make like an outdoor living room, because you can put fans and recessed lighting, maybe mood lighting underneath there, and create a more outside environment right outside your home. San Diego’s one of the best places to have an indoor, outdoor environment because there’s not a lot of bugs. So, you can leave your doors open and walk right out to the outside.

Sean: Yeah, you got that outdoor living space.

J.R.: That’s right. That’s right.

Sean: Now, with that, you also block the sun, which you may want at times. That’s where this third solution, which I’m really excited about comes into play, correct?

J.R.: That’s right. The louvered roof, or shutters for your roof, if you will, are the more popular thing out there now. And, it allows you to adjust and open and control the roof and how much sun or shade or rain you block at your leisure.

Sean: So, this is actually the roof itself. And, you can adjust it automatically or manually to how much shade you want. And, if it’s raining, you just completely close it?

J.R.: Correct. Yep.

Sean: And, it’s gonna block all the rain from coming in?

J.R.: It would.

Sean: Wow! This is a just a-

J.R.: The weather proof cover but allows sun when you want it, so in the morning you can have more sun in your kitchen, if you will, then you would in the afternoon. You can block the sun from your living room and stop the glare on your big screen TV.

Sean: I would imagine when people see this, they just fall in love with it.

J.R.: They do.

Sean: And, at your showroom, you have examples of all of these things. So, people can just see, touch, and feel all of them.

J.R.: We do, we’re open seven days a week.

Sean: I thought it was open eight days a week. (laughs)

J.R.: Eight days a week is fine.

Sean: So, you can see all of the different examples that you have available. And, you’re gonna consult with people and find out exactly what they need, correct?

J.R.: That’s right. Some people don’t need an entire patio cover with a louvered roof, we can do it in combo sections. So, one portion’s openable and closable and the other portion’s a solid. We can mix and match to meet whatever the customer needs.

Sean: And that’s why we love you guys so much. You’re a great member of the network and just a great contractor. You can find All Seasons and other top pros at ApprovedHomePros.com.
