The California Contractors State License Board was established in 1929 as the Contractors License Bureau under the Department of Professional Standards. Originally, the main function of the CSLB was licensing general contractors and subtrades. Today, the CSLB is part of the California Department of Consumer Affairs which protects homeowners in many ways. The CSLB not only governs licensing, it also serves the consumer by investigating home improvement sales violations, workmanship, and contractor performance issues. It also investigates unlicensed activity through a program called SWIFT where it conducts sting operations. You can report suspected unlicensed activity to the CSLB as well. If you are planning on any type of home improvement or repairs, cslb.ca.gov is an important resource to check for licensing, insurance, and bonding and to see if there are any citations. Of course, when you find a pro through Approved Home Pros Pro Finder, we have already done that work for you.
