Woodworking Tips From the Pros
Wood is the preferred medium for many artists, craftsmen, and hobbyists alike. Follow these tips on your next woodworking project.
Make safety a priority. Wear safety goggles and protective gloves. Read the instructions on all your new equipment. Set up a well-ventilated workspace.
Don’t skimp on sanding. Scratches and nicks stand out more when stained. Sand your wood, going from coarse to fine grit, to remove imperfections and leave a smooth, soft shape.
Stains and paint can look different than what you imagined once you get it on the grain. Test stains and paint on spare pieces of wood or a spot that won’t be visible.
Take care of dust, which ruins stains and finishes. Invest in a hefty vacuum to remove sawdust from your workspace, and wipe down the wood with a damp washcloth before you apply a stain, paint, or finish.
